Just in..............a car we prepared and sold a few years ago, saw little use. And now back.
Excellent body and paint, excellent chassis and wood floor, mostly new chrome (grille, bumpers, etc.), beautiful on the outside, quite nice underneath.
Rebuilt early MGB engine (these are fairly rare and my preference for any MGA I have ever owed....looks like a proper A engine from the exterior, has the same mechanical tach drive as does an A engine which connects perfecting to the MGA's mechanical tach)...but substantially larger displacement and rated at 95hp). With twin SU carbs
Gearbox was rebuilt, plenty of work done to the brakes and suspension, all new wire wheels hubs, splijnes, bearings, chrome knock offs and with 15" wire wheels. All new interior, new tonneau and new convertible top. Wiring harness is new and there isn't any better way of ensuring long term reliability than all new wiring
Fitted with new MGB disc brakes (better than the archaic MGA discs), new rear leaf springs, rebuilt fuel gauge with new sender, Lucas driving lights wired o the high beam switch via a relay, AND (even better) fitted with an early MGB 3.9 differential for more relaxed highway cruising. Not quite the overall gearing of a 5 speed but certainly in the right direction and makes a big different above 60 mph.
Overall a nicely prepared early MGA with improvements in most of the key areas.....more power, more flexibility, higher gearing, better brakes, on and on. A beautiful, sensibly done MGA.
And on this subject....early MGA twin cams were rated at 108hp but suffered horribly forcing the company to lower the compression ratio, later rated at 100hp. While the B engine in this car is rated at 95hp and that can push to 110hp or more with a hotter cam and some head work. Makes for a very lively little classic sports car! And, needless to say, with the quiet rebuilt transmission, a joy to drive.
